Beñat is interested in the process of making and the conflict that emerges between his impulsive being and the strong and controlling sense of his personal visual logic.
He draws from the vast, immeasurable and unknown space of his internal landscape, responding to the colourless, liminal and interstitial non-spaces of his mind. He creates ambiguous pieces, marked by the absence of a definable meaning, which allow him to get lost in these undefined territories.
By taking an unplanned approach to painting at first his hand is in control, compulsively filling the canvas with obsessive and urged marks. Then, with the simple intention of responding to those initial impulses, Beñat pursues a necessary balance until the image takes form and rests true to his distinctive visual language.
