In this work I am exploring my personal connection with ordinary people and their identities, vulnerabilities, imperfections and the search for joy. I employ different painterly languages to elicit different responses and readings about our sexual, social, emotional and ethical lives. Often painted in one intense sitting, and sometimes including a slower, intricate process of collage or transfer, these works reflect my long-held fascination with the homemade and the unpolished. Alongside my desire to offer playfulness and enjoyment, I am deeply curious about ambiguous feelings prompted by exhibitionism, sexuality and transgression. How liberated do any of us really feel?
